Gospel Stars Come Together to Save the Earth
Organic Bouquet Organizes World Environment Day Theme Song
San Francisco (June 1, 2005) Not since the recording of "We Are the World" 20 years ago has the music industry come together for a cause as now for the United Nations World Environment Day (WED 2005). Legendary gospel singers will team up to voice their support for a greener future for planet Earth.
In April, the gospel artists convened in a Berkeley, Calif., studio to record "United Nations, Together We Can", which was written and produced by legendary, four-time Grammy winner Edwin Hawkins (of "O Happy Day" fame). Gospel groups and artists included:
- The Williams Brothers
- Richard Smallwood
- Daryl Coley
- Three Bridges
- Virtue
- Walter Hawkins
- Lashun Pace
- Byron Cage
- Tramaine Hawkins
- Donald Lawrence
- Karen Clark-Sheard (of the Clark Sisters)
- Kim Burrell
Organic Bouquet Inc., the world's first organic floral retailer and official florist for World Environment Day, commissioned Mr. Hawkins to write the theme song for WED 2005, which will take place June 1-5 in San Francisco, marking the first time it is to be held in North America.
On June 5, Organic Bouquet is sponsoring a spectacular live performance of "United Nations, Together We Can" with a 1,000 voice Gospel choir at the closing ceremony of WED 2005 on the steps of City Hall in San Francisco.
"United Nations, Together We Can" will be given to WED to help promote the event and future WED events around the world. Proceeds from the sale of this song will be donated to "A Community of Unity," a non-profit led by Mr. Hawkins that raises funds for a variety of San Francisco Bay Area charities.
Established in 2001, Organic Bouquet is the world's first online organic florist. Organic Bouquet's mission is to set a new standard for the floral industry that upholds the well being of farm workers, the protection of ecosystems, and the preservation of the Earth.
