|White Calla Lilies|
White Calla Lilies are both classic and modern, with soft flowing petals that wrap around and blend into the soft green stems beneath. They are one of the most gentle and delicate flowers in appearance. Our white Calla Lilies are grown without pesticides or chemicals, and they're cut with extra long stems. They were made famous by the talented artist Georgia O'Keefe in her paintings. Organic white Calla Lilies make a lasting impression every time.
The meaning of white Calla Lilies is "magnificent beauty." They became popular in the United States when the movie Stage Door was released. It was the film in which Katherine Hepburn said, "The Calla Lilies are in bloom again. Such a strange flower—suitable to any occasion. I carried them on my wedding day, and now I place them here in memory of something that has died." Katherine Hepburn herself has been associated with white Calla Lilies since then, as she is as long-lasting and elegant as the flowers themselves.
The Calla Lily is also known as the Arum Lily and Calla. An interesting bit of trivia is that the Calla Lily is not a true Lily, and it is neither a true Arum or Calla either. They originated in South Africa. They can also be found in shades of yellow, orange, red, and purple. The word "Calla" actually comes from the Greek "Kallos," which means beautiful. Their scent is light, a mere afterthought.
You'll often see Calla Lily or Calla Lilies misspelled, e.g., Cala Lilies, Calla Lilly, or Calla Lillies. It's helpful to remember that Calla has two 'L's, while Lily and Lilies always have just one 'L," whether they're plural or not.
White Calla Lilies are often used for bridal bouquets, and they're one of the most beautiful choices for weddings. Their shape suggests trumpets, and they are thought of as heralding the bride.
